Theodore Freeman (34), an astronaut in training to be a NASA Gemini mission crewman, when his T-38 Talon jet hits a goose, shattering the canopy and sending shards of plexiglas into the engines. He remains with the crippled craft to avoid it crashing into buildings at Ellington Air Force Base in Texas, and ejects too late for his parachute to deploy
