LONDON: The Post Office announce that the Datel 100 Service, which can transmit text to be teleprinted for just £120 (£2,400 in today’s prices) a year plus call charges now has an error rate of 1:500,000 characters, compared to 1:30,000 when launched, over its 50 bits per second (0.00000625MB/s) capability. Next year, the Datel 600 Service will become available, offering up to 150 characters per second for roughly the same price. The Datel 2000 service, offering 250 characters per second, will follow, and require a leased line and increase charges by up to 37½ per cent.
